Turn Around
GOAL: As part of Volusia County School's drop-out prevention program, the Turn Around program recognizes middle and high school students who have demonstrated a marked improvement in school involvement and citizenship.
PROGRAM: The program honors a student at each grade level in the middle and high schools who have shown a dramatic achievement in at least two of the following area: a. attendance b. attitude (marked by reduction in numbers of referrals c. grades (improvement in grades, not necessarily the highest grades) d. school involvement (citizenship)
RECOMMENDATIONS: The principal of each school, with the input of guidance counselors and teachers, recommends three students per grade level whose behavior and grades have shown a marked improvement this school year (or from one year to the next). Based on written recommendations, a committee established by FUTURES reviews the nominations and selects one student per grade for formal recognition.
RECOGNITION: All nominees submitted will receive a certificate (different from the winners) that will be mailed to his/her school in April with a request that it be presented to the student during an appropriate school program. Each winner and his/her parents will be invited to a gala dinner hosted by FUTURES. School principals, School Board members, district administrators, and members of FUTURES will also be invited to attend.
Each winner will receive a certificate and his/her name will be engraved on a plaque to be displayed at the school. Most of the Turn Around students (winners and nominees) have not received positive recognition in the past. Therefore it is our goal that they be reached, motivated, and rewarded as they turn their lives around! Forms for Turn Around:
