FUTURES Foundation Elects 3 new Board Members
FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools recently elected area business leaders Melinda Dawson, SHRM-CP, Sonya Laney, CPA, and Tom Pokorny to its Board of Directors.
Ms. Dawson of Daytona Beach owns Oil & Vinegar in Daytona Beach and previously was Senior Vice President at Sentrics. An undergraduate of Furman University, she received her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. Ms. Dawson has received many community awards for her dedication to our community including the Marvin Samuels Leadership Award.
Ms. Laney of New Smyrna Beach is president of Sonya Laney, CPA, P.A., a full-service accounting practice in Port Orange. She also provides tax staff and tax law training at Thomson Reuters. Ms. Laney received her undergraduate and Master of Accountancy degrees from Stetson University. She is involved in our community having served on several City of Port Orange boards.
Mr. Pokorny of Port Orange owns Edgeset Marketing in Ormond Beach. He previously worked for International Speedway Corporation and Anthem Systems. Mr. Pokorny is a graduate of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. He is a member of the Checkered Flag Committee, Daytona Beach Gator Club and Central Baptist Church.
FUTURES Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1985 to support Volusia County Schools. Its mission is to engage business and civic leaders to promote and achieve educational excellence for Volusia County Public Schools. The Foundation’s 32-member board of directors consists of area business and civic leaders who direct and raise funds to facilitate a variety of programs in the school district. FUTURES Foundation facilitates the Volusia Take Stock in Children Program which offers scholarships, mentors, and hope to at-risk, low-income high school students. FUTURES Foundation also funds teacher classroom mini-grants for innovative, creative classroom/school projects via www.FindItFundItFlorida.com/Volusia.
